TikToks on YouTube: How to Repost Them as Shorts (2026 Guide)

How to post your TikToks on YouTube as Shorts without watermarks or blocked music, which TikToks to pick, and what reposting can earn in 2026.

TikToks on YouTube: How Short-Form Content Is Revolutionizing Video Sharing
On this page

To put TikToks on YouTube, upload the original video file (not the watermarked TikTok download) as a YouTube Short. Any vertical or square video up to 3 minutes counts as a Short. Swap out TikTok library music first, because a Short longer than one minute with an active Content ID claim is blocked worldwide.

The payoff is a mostly new audience. Google, citing GWI data on US internet users, says 45% of YouTube Shorts users are not on TikTok. Socialinsider's 2026 study of 69 million short-form videos found that accounts under 5,000 followers averaged 15,160 views per Short, against 350 per TikTok (more in our YouTube Shorts statistics). The most common mistake is reposting the watermarked file with a TikTok sound, which can get the Short blocked before anyone sees it.

How do you post a TikTok on YouTube Shorts?

  1. Get the clean file. Use the export from your editor, the same file you uploaded to TikTok. If you only have the post on TikTok, the in-app download adds a watermark with your username, which tells YouTube viewers they are watching a repost. Re-export from the original project if you can.
  2. Check the length and shape. If the video is vertical or square and 3 minutes or less, it becomes a Short. If it runs longer than 3 minutes, it uploads as a regular YouTube video.
  3. Replace TikTok music. Sounds licensed for TikTok are not automatically cleared for YouTube. Use original audio or a track from the Shorts Audio Library: most songs can run up to 90 seconds in a Short, and some are limited to 60 or 30 seconds.
  4. Move text away from YouTube's buttons. Shorts place the title, channel name and buttons differently from TikTok, so check captions and on-screen text against the YouTube Shorts safe zone.
  5. Upload. Use the YouTube app on your phone, or YouTube Studio on YouTube on a computer. Rewrite the TikTok caption as a searchable title of up to 100 characters. A YouTube title generator helps when you post several Shorts at once.
  6. Add a custom thumbnail (optional). Verified accounts can upload a thumbnail for a Short in YouTube Studio on a computer. YouTube recommends 9:16 at 2160x3840.
  7. Disclose realistic AI. If the video uses realistic AI visuals, or makes a real person appear to say something they never said, turn on the "AI use" setting in YouTube Studio. Disclosure alone does not limit a video's reach or its eligibility to earn.

Two limits matter: one minute for claimed music, and 3 minutes for the Short format.

TikTok vs YouTube Shorts: specs side by side

This is why so many TikToks end up on YouTube. Since October 15, 2024, vertical or square videos up to 3 minutes count as Shorts, so most TikToks fit without trimming. In August 2026, YouTube said Shorts get over 200 billion views a day.

Which TikToks should you post on YouTube?

Start with the TikToks that already performed, not the ones you wish had. Length matters less than most creators think. In Revid's analysis of 176,367 TikToks with 1,000+ likes posted between October 2025 and October 2026, every length bucket from under 15 seconds to 10 minutes had a median between 58K and 76K views. Videos of 61 to 90 seconds reached 70K. Clips under 15 seconds had the lowest median (58K) but the most shares per view (1.41 per 100).

These figures are TikTok data on videos that had already passed 1,000 likes. They show what successful videos have in common, not what causes success, and they are not a YouTube rule. The full method is in our study of what makes a TikTok go viral.

Length alone barely moves views: every bucket lands between 58K and 76K median views (the 790 videos over 10 minutes are a small, unusual group). Clips under 15 seconds get shared the most per view.

Use these rules to sort your back catalog:

  • If it works without TikTok context, post it as is.
  • If it says "stitch this" or "link in bio", or replies to a TikTok comment, re-cut the ending or skip it. YouTube viewers will not get the reference.
  • If it is a Duet or a Stitch, skip it. Half the frame is another creator's video.
  • If it runs 1 to 3 minutes over a commercial song, re-score it or trim it under one minute.
  • If it is longer than 3 minutes, cut a Short version and post the full video as a regular YouTube upload.

Can you post TikTok compilations on YouTube?

Yes, if the TikToks are your own. Group related clips into one video longer than 3 minutes and it uploads as a regular YouTube video. Unlike Shorts Feed views, the watch hours from that video count toward the 4,000-hour YouTube Partner Program threshold. Add a short intro and chapters so it plays as one piece instead of a stack of clips.

Other people's TikToks are a different matter. Search YouTube for "tiktok compilation" and you will find plenty of channels doing it. Reposting other creators' videos without permission still invites copyright claims and takedowns.

Monetization is also at risk. YouTube's channel monetization policies do not allow ads on reused content (including mostly non-verbal reactions to someone else's video) or on repetitive, mass-produced content. The reused content rule applies to the whole channel, not one video. If you want to build on another creator's clip, get written permission and add real commentary, analysis or teaching.

Can you make money from TikToks on YouTube?

Yes, but Shorts pay little per view, so treat reposts as reach first. Today, YouTube Partner Program ad revenue requires 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 12 months or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. Watch hours from the Shorts Feed do not count toward the 4,000 hours, so a channel of reposted TikToks qualifies mainly through the Shorts views route.

Monetizing creators keep 45% of the Shorts Feed ad revenue allocated to them, whether or not their Shorts use music. AIR Media-Tech's 2026 partner data put Shorts RPM for US audiences at $0.328 per 1,000 views. Shorts work best as a funnel to longer videos, brand deals and products, not as a paycheck.

Two changes take effect on February 1, 2027:

  • New applicants will need 8,000 qualified watch hours in 365 days or 20 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days, plus 1,000 subscribers. Channels already in the program are not affected.
  • Earning Shorts ad revenue in a given month will require 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. Channels below that bar stay in the program and keep their long-form earnings.

On TikTok, the Creator Rewards Program needs 10,000 followers, 100,000 views in the last 30 days and age 18 or older, and it only pays on videos at least one minute long. An original video of 1 to 3 minutes can therefore earn on TikTok and still qualify as a Short on YouTube. For real numbers, see how much YouTubers make.

Post to TikTok and YouTube at once with Revid

If you make your videos in Revid, you skip the download-and-reupload loop entirely.

  1. Create the video from an idea, a script or a link with the AI YouTube Shorts generator. Revid writes the script and builds the visuals, voice-over, captions and music.
  2. Fix any scene in the timeline editor, then export in 1080p or 4K.
  3. Publish the same file to TikTok, YouTube and Instagram from one queue with direct publishing and scheduling. It is your own export, so there is no TikTok watermark to remove.
  4. Compare the views, likes and comments each post reports, and remix the one that did best in one click.

Prompt to try

Make a 45-second vertical video on three budgeting mistakes first-time renters make. Open with the hook "You're losing $200 a month and you don't know it." Use fast cuts, bold captions and upbeat original music so the same file works on TikTok and YouTube Shorts.

Plan one idea for both platforms

Alex Hormozi’s Advice on Content Creation

Reposting is the minimum. The stronger approach is to plan each idea for both apps: a quick TikTok, the same video as a Short, and, when it lands, a longer YouTube video that goes deeper. Plan a batch in one sitting (our guide to batch-creating TikTok videos shows a workflow) and log which version went where.

The two audiences behave differently. In Pew Research Center's 2025 teen survey, 61% of U.S. teens said they use TikTok daily, while roughly three-quarters use YouTube every day (see our short-form video statistics). For age and gender breakdowns, third-party roundups such as SendShort's TikTok statistics page gather figures from many sources. Check the original source before you quote one.

Then compare the results on each side. In TikTok Studio, the Viewers tab shows when your viewers were active over the last 7 days. Set that next to your Shorts analytics in YouTube Studio. When a topic wins on both platforms, make the longer YouTube version. Our cross-platform content strategy guide covers the full planning system.

FAQ

Can you upload a TikTok to YouTube?

Yes. Upload the original file of your own TikTok through the YouTube app or YouTube Studio. If it is vertical or square and 3 minutes or less, YouTube classifies it as a Short.

Should you remove the TikTok watermark before posting on YouTube?

Yes. Upload the clean export instead of the watermarked download. The TikTok logo and username mark the video as a repost and cover part of the frame, and cropping them out usually cuts into the picture too.

Can I post someone else's TikToks on my YouTube channel?

Only with the creator's permission. Without it, you risk copyright claims, and YouTube's policies do not allow monetization of reused content that lacks your own original contribution.

Do YouTube Shorts count toward the 4,000 watch hours?

No. Watch hours from the Shorts Feed do not count. Shorts help you qualify through the separate route: 1,000 subscribers plus 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days.
